
Brian Quist
Dr. Brian Quist is a Senior Director of Research and Development at Smith+Nephew in Sports Medicine. Within the Arthroscopic Enabling Technology group, he leads the Advanced Technology Development, Systems Engineering and Systems Verification groups. In this role, he is helping advance the purpose of Smith+Nephew – “Life Unlimited” – by using technology to take the limits off living for patients and helping medical professionals do the same.
Brian began his career in 2012 as a consultant at the Boston Consulting Group in the Chicago office. In 2015, he became a Project Leader. While at BCG, he focused on healthcare and had experiences in strategy, R&D portfolio optimization, M&A diligence and large-scale operating model transformations.
In 2017, Brian joined Smith+Nephew as the Director of Digital Health supporting the President of R&D. He transitioned into Sports Medicine to start the Systems Engineering and Systems Verification groups in 2019. In 2020, he added management of the Advanced Technology Development group.
Brian has a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Northwestern University. He was awarded a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship and a Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award for Individual Predoctoral Fellows during his doctoral work at Northwestern. He holds a Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering with a minor in bioengineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). He also holds a certificate for Management for Scientists and Engineers from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
